Yummy Masala Dosai - Recipe Marathon - Day 18

Oh my god !! is my first expression when I type in Day 18 ...just 12 more days to go .. whew time flies like anything .. but I must confess that this marathon , is surely taking a little over of my time ... so what if it takes up my time .. I'm enjoying what I blog and when you enjoy what you do , you never get tired of it .. very true .. I can say that its 100 percent true, since I'm experiencing it now.
Now to my recipe for the day is Yummy Masala Dosai. Ive included the word "Yummy" coz every time my mom makes it , the dosa has a distinct taste to it. Trust me I gobble up 4 to 5 dosas ... On to the ingredients and preparation.
Ingredients:
Dosa Batter - 5 cups
Potato - 2 boiled and mashed
Onion - 1 cut lenghtwise
Green Chillies - 3
Besan powder - 2 spoons
Salt to taste
A pinch of turmeric powder.
For tempering mustard seeds, urad dal and oil
Method:
Prepare the Dosa batter as usual and leave it to ferment over night. Boil the potatoes and mash them. In a large frying pan, add some oil and when its hot, add the mustard seeds followed by curry leaves and urad dal. Add in the slit green chillies to add flavor. Now add the mashed potato, a pinch of turmeric powder. Keep stirring after adding salt. Prepare a paste using besan powder and water. Add this paste to the mashed potato. This will help you get the consistency of the masala. When done, switch of flame and keep aside. Now to how you actually make the masala dosa. Heat a tawa under medium flame and when hot pour the dosa batter and make a dosa.
Close it using a Idli maker 's lid or a pressure cooker lid. This will help you steam the dosa and the outer layer will be crispy.

After a minute remove the lid and your dosa would be done. Now keep the masala in the middle and close the dosa.

Serve the dosa hot with Coconut chutney.

I get some good smell from my fellow runners kitchen , shall we peek in , come on ...
