Chennai Food Guide - A Decade to Celebrate

What I've enjoyed most, though, is meeting people who have a real interest in food and sharing ideas with them. Good food is a global thing and I find that there is always something new and amazing to learn - I love it! - Jamie Oliver.

These words exactly resonate the memories and happiness that I have got from Chennai Food Guide Group. Foodies who can go to any distance to taste good food, and to try any recipe that is been shared.

My journey with this fabulous group started three years back, ever since it has helped me enrich my knowledge on various cuisines and encouraged me to try new recipes. In fact, my biryani is liked by everyone who has had it. This happened after I had attended a biryani workshop conducted by CFG, which gave me confidence to venture into that space. Like wise there has been a lot of workshops that had taught me a lot of things with respect to cooking

CFG is an integral part of my life and my venture into the food industry. As a blogger I got the opportunity to interact with many renowned chefs and restaurateurs. I met some of my best buddies in life in this wonderful forum. Not sure what I will do without them. . They are like family to me.

I won the Super Chef title, throughout that competition. The encouragement and support that I got from this forum was immense. Even when I lost confidence in myself, the good folks in this forum did not. They kept pushing me to do my best no matter what. When I stood on the dais and got the first place, I could not thank them less.

It is a wonderful place to learn new things, to nurture the talent you have and share your experiences.

Come join the fun and experience what I have had all these three years

Bread Halwa

One unique thing about muslim weddings, the wedding lunch menu remains the same. Its briyani ( veg and non veg) , the brinjal side dish and bread halwa. My favorite part ofcourse is Halwa . I learnt to make the perfect bread halwa in a Briyani Workshop conducted by Chennai Food Guide. It did give me the confidence to make Briyani and the Bread Halwa .

On to the recipe now.

Ingredients

Bread - 1 full packet ( milk bread )
Oil for deep frying
Khoya - 1 cup
Sugar - 2 cups
Ghee - 3 tbsp
Dry fruits - 1/2 cup

Method

Cut the bread into small pieces
Deep fry them in hot oil and set it aside on a kitchen paper
You can alternatively roast the bread in an oven until its golden brown in color

In a heavy bottomed wok, heat the ghee and fry the dry fruits in it.
Slowly add the fried or baked bread followed by khoya and sugar.

Please take care to adjust the sugar according to the taste of the khoya that you are adding

Keep a low flame and keep stirring well until all the ingredients blend well.
The choice of dry fruits is entirely to suit you taste and to make the dish more rich in taste and texture.
