Blogging Marathon has reached a milestone today. Yes it is the 20th edition of the Blogging Marathon. Something that was started by Srivalli to be a motivating factor to post in the blog, has become a part and parcel of those of us who do it regularly. It more fun to find a group of people who choose themes and come out with innovative recipes. The themes range from very easy ones to the real tough ones.
My theme for the first week is Delicious Dals. I had put in my thoughts on what to cook under this theme,
only then it dawned upon me that my space, does not have the very basic Dal recipe. Last Saturday, I was all by myself and was looking out to cook something comforting and quick. So made this Dal and had it with Appalam. Easy to make at the same time has a wonderful , comforting taste
Ingredients
Toor Dal - 1 cup
Jeera - 1 tsp
Red chili - 2
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Asafoetida powder - a pinch
Salt - to taste
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Method
Pressure cook the Toor Dal with a pinch of turmeric powder and Asafoetida
Let it cook for about 3 whistles
Wait till the pressure is released and mash the cooked Toor Dal
In a small wok heat a little ghee and add the Jeera to it
When they sputter add the red chili
Pour it over the cooked and mashed Dal
Serve with hot rice and Appalam
